Renowned for his inflatable latex trousers, Harri, whose full name is Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai first caught the attention of the British Fashion Council (BFC) back in 2020 when he presented his London College of Fashion graduating collection just weeks before the globe fell into lockdown, and his gravity-defying inflatable latex trousers helped him get shortlisted for the BFC’s NEWGEN initiative.
Taking place once again at the Newgen Catwalk Space in The Old Selfridges Hotel, London, the Spring/Summer 2024 collection by HARRI debuted in a stunning presentation that combined performance art and fashion. The series, titled “CHAPTER THREE: TEXTURE & MOVEMENT,” explored sculpture while taking cues from the globular works of Isamu Noguchi and Peter Shelton.
The designs of HARRI’s collection, which toyed with the body’s inherent proportions, pushed the frontiers of fashion. Models wore inflated bald heads embellished with long hairpieces while wearing bloated latex outfits. The runway event went beyond traditional fashion shows and entered the world of performance art, where oversized clothing gracefully moved while paying respect to the fantastical.
The collection featured relaxed suiting with pointed shoulders and was worn with sleek, restrained leggings and Vibram Five Fingers shoes. The entire look and feel was vibrant and young, with a colour scheme that ranged from bright greens to dark greys and blacks.
