We originally covered the launch of Ridley Scotts dystopian future sci-fi series, Raised with Wolves, back in 2020 as we highlighted the latex costumes worn by the leading characters, Mother and Father.
The first series revolved around a pair of synthetic androids, Mother and Father, sent to a distant planet with the sole purpose of caring and protecting the last surviving human children after the end of a catastrophic war on Earth. In the trailer Mother and Father, played by Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim respectively, both android parents wore a full-body green latex suit – a form of synthetic skin to cover the otherwise mechanical and electrical android internals.
Whilst Raised by Wolves was well received by critics and fans, it was the latex costumes that gained our attention. Designed by senior costumer Janty Yates, who has worked with Ridley Scott multiple times over the years (she won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work on Gladiator), the choice of latex was great to see as our favourite material was featured in such a high profile series. The work of Janty and her team was featured in a behind the scenes video shortly after the release of the first season:
