Growth of Latex Accessoring
In 2022 no outfit was complete without the must have accessory of the year, a pair of latex gloves. The second half of the year saw a dramatic increase in accessoring of outfits with the addition of latex. Celebs including Kate Beckinsale accessoried her dress with latex gloves back in September.
Leomie Anderson also accessorised her outfit with latex gloves at this years MTV EMA’s and Olivia Culpo finished off her latex ensemble with a pair of opera gloves to for Haute Living magazine.
Brands such as Angelika Darkling were featured in global publications, again with the outfits including fingerless opera gloves. Lali Espósito also wore Atsuko Kudo gloves to present at the Premios Platino Awards.
This trend of accessorising will no doubt continue into 2023 so expect to see more latex gloves, peplum skirts, stockings and hats and berets, and chokers. Be sure to check out how to style 2023’s must have latex accessory with Liquid Disco for some inspiration.
Red, Lots of Red!
Earlier this month Pantone announced the bold and powerful PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta as Colour of the Year 2023, a red-toned colour that is rooted in nature and radiates vitality and vigor.
A staple colour for latex for many years, this sexy and sensual colour is perfect for rubber as it seductively highlights the wearers curves and will no doubt going to earn a pseudonym of “Latex Red” in 2023. We’ve already the colour tone used heavily in 2022 by designers such as Sublime Berlin, Avellano and Vex Clothing.
The ‘Loose’ Catwalk Craze
The catwalks of 2022 at Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and London Fashion Week saw an abundance of latex clothing with designers such as Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood and Victoria Beckham bringing Torture Garden latex accessories to the runway.
French designer, Arthur Avellano, a graduate of the Toulouse Fine Arts school presented both his Spring-Summer 2022 and Fall-Winter 2023 latex collections.
What’s clear from many of the collections shown was the inspiration taken from long flowing and loose garments, a move which will no doubt be welcomed by many who have yet to experience latex clothing. Loose fitting dresses, jackets and skirts were in abundance and this trend will surely continue in 2023 as latex clothing becomes more mainstream.
