For Spring/Summer 2025, Philipp Dorner presents a captivating exploration of the liminal space between youth and adulthood. The collection, titled “A Pilgrimage Through Transformative and Pensive State”, navigates the complex transition from boyhood to manhood, drawing inspiration from the uniforms that define these stages – a Boy Scout’s attire symbolising preparatory adolescence and the later grandeur of ministry dress codes. Dorner dissects and reassembles these signifiers, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.

Presenting his debut runway show at this years prestigious London Fashion Week, and taking place at the Electrowerkz music venue, the collection embodies the push and pull between societal structures and youthful freedom, expressed through clashes of functionality and fluid movement and masterfully capturing the naive dissonance of pubescence through a considered juxtaposition of functionality and fluidity. Semi-transparent prints and velvets are confined within breaks and integrated briefs within trousers, while tailored, tent-like shapes evoke the image of a child playfully mimicking adult attire.
But it was, of course, the inclusion and addition of latex into the Philipp Dorner SS25 range which caught our attention. With the incorporation of latex trousers, shorts, vests and dungarees the collection challenges conventional notions of masculinity, exploring homoerotic undertones inspired by male camaraderie in locker rooms and the awkwardness of sexual awakening. This nuanced perspective is further enhanced by the interplay of softness and roughness, both visually and conceptually, suggesting a more intimate understanding of identity. Dorner merges the seemingly disparate worlds of evening wear and sportswear, creating a contemporary daily uniform.
Philipp Dorner’s SS25 collection transcends expectations, offering a fresh perspective on the traditional boundaries between youth and adulthood. The result is a harmonious fusion of fluidity and pragmatism, comfort and occasion, where the spirit of boyhood is celebrated with a mature and sophisticated sensibility. Dorner’s designs encourage us to see youth and adulthood not as mutually exclusive, but as harmonious elements in the continuous evolution of self.
